The expectations were huge at age 15. He was the no. 1 Junior in the world. He had hit with John McEnroe at the age of 10.He would certainly be no. 1 in the world before long.

Donald Young is now 22 and finally has made his way into his first Grand Slam quarters. It has been a long time coming for Young, his family and his numerous new York fans.

On a warm and humid day at Flushing Meadows,Young beat 32 year old Juan Ignacio Chela of Argentina 7-5,6-4,6-3.Chela is a veteran who has 6 wins on the ATP Tour but all on clay.

Young was coming off of a 7-set day on Friday after beating Stan Wawrinka in singles and then losing in mixed doubles. He was fortunate to get the Grandstand as it has shadows and is considered weather wise the coolest court on the site.

Young has been coached out of Atlanta by his parents and as an only child, largely sheltered.

He entered the event as a wildcard despite being no. 87 in the world. He gained that ranking by a strong semis showing at the hardcourt event in Washington, DC,but that came too late to get him into the Open off of his ranking.

Young will play Andy Murray Tuesday evening.
